Why New DJ Make Mistakes – Mistake #1

New DJ

When I was a new DJ I was STRUGGELING to get beatmatching down. Once I learned to beatmatch I couldn’t seem to figure out how I could get my mixes tight like the pro DJs that were playing at the big parties… I was sooo frustrated!

It took me 2 years to get my beatmatching and mixing tight enough to get a DJ gig…

I read all kinds of books, listened to tapes, went to DJ schools and watched DJ training videos on YouTube. I found that nothing seemed to actually WORK at getting new DJs
beatmatching and mixing quickly…

And now I have the opportunity to help new DJs like you get started quickly. Here is the best DJing article I’ve ever written:

MISTAKE #1: Teaching Yourself As a New DJ…

Have you ever searched for or posted up questions looking for advice on learning to DJ only to find responses like “teach yourself”…

I remember that when I started out this is the advice I got and it took me 2 years to get my mixing to the point where I could get a gig.

You’ve probably also noticed that the guys that give the advice of ‘teach yourself’ are also the guys that are proud to say that it took them 1 or 2 years to learn how to DJ…
The DJs that say teach yourself are generally the DJs that struggled to get beatmatching and mixing and never went on to play any big gigs.

Why do so many DJs recommend new DJs to teach themselves? Its very simple… One reason is that most DJs don’t know about the techniques that are out there that can get new DJs mixing faster.

But the bigger reason why most DJs preach to “teach yourself” is because that is how they learned… To recommend any other faster way of learning to DJ would be
like saying “There are great ways to learn to DJ way faster but I chose the slowest method and this caused me to struggle for 2 years…”.

We humans never like to admit that we were wrong because it makes us feel stupid… So we would rather recommend a flawed system for learning to DJ (teaching yourself) and even go as far as arguing that it’s the best way to get DJing.

So to avoid the “teaching yourself” trap and to QUICKLY learn to beatmatch, mix and get gigs like a pro, the first step is to look for other DJ training methods that are out
there…
